About Natural Bedding

Get to know Giant Miscanthus

Giant Miscanthus is a perennial grass with the ability to grow on  marginal land. It maintains high water efficiency, is non-invasive,  requires low fertilizer needs, and sequesters carbon. Its unique  properties make it an amazing animal bedding product. Miscanthus has been used for animal bedding in Europe for over 50 years, and now we know why!

The cost and health benefits are undeniable

Animal bedding is a major cost center for any operation. Based on surveys of our customers, the average material cost per week per stall  (12 x 12) after switching to Natural Bedding dropped by 20%, and for  many, much higher. The reason is that our bedding is so absorbent, muckers can easily remove concentrated areas without much loss of fresh  material. This results in much lower consumption of bedding and more than offsets the price per pound difference.

Shrink your disposal costs

Your disposal options and associated cost is very much influenced by  your location and setup. If you live in a location that requires hauling  off the muck on a weight basis, then this product will undoubtedly be  your best friend. By having to dispose of far less volume of waste, you  can cut your disposal costs by as much as 40%. On the other hand, if you land-apply, you know how much labor is expended hauling, dumping, and spreading. By significantly reducing the number of trips, you can reduce your labor costs.

Breathe cleaner air

Our Miscanthus bedding is dust extracted which helps your animals  breathe easier. It also ensures workers don’t inhale dust while making the bed and mucking out. We have had great feedback from our customers that experienced reduced coughing and allergy symptoms due to the low  dust level.

Increase your storage space

Our bedding is made purely from finely chopped Miscanthus with nothing  else added which makes it extremely durable. Couple that with the need  to use far less than traditional bedding options, and you can reduce  your bedding storage requirements and free up the space we know you need.

Reduce your carbon footprint

Natural Bedding is cost-effective, improves the quality of your animal’s life, and reduces disposal time and costs. Did we mention that the properties of Miscanthus make it one of, if not the best, carbon-sequestering grass in the world? Using Natural Bedding helps to reduce landfill waste while simultaneously reducing our global carbon footprint.

Reduce those pesky flies

Flies are annoying. So is the smell of a dirty stall. Our customers have told us one of their favorite features of Natural Bedding is the improved smell and major reduction in flies. The high absorbency helps to reduce the ammonia smell caused by unabsorbed urine while also reducing the number of flies. Less fly spray anyone?

The product is amazing. My horses are healthier, my costs are way down, and my grass is greener.
